Low Fodmap
This diet is often recommended for gastrointestinal (GI) conditions such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Crohn’s disease. It is low in fermentable carbs known as FODMAPS. Common foods avoided are:
- Oligosaccharides: wheat, rye, legumes, garlic, onions
- Disaccharides: Milk, lactose, soft cheeses
- Fructans: veggies like asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts
- Monosaccharides: high fructose fruits like apples, mangoes, figs
- Polyols: certain fruits and veggies including blackberries, apricots, avocados and sweeteners ending in “-tol” (sorbitol, xylitol, etc.)
